FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do prior to arriving at Tranquil Waters Float?

DO NOT SHAVE OR WAX at least 24 hours prior to your float session. The salt water can irritate your skin.
Do not drink coffee a few hours prior to floating.
Eat a little something prior to floating.

Can I float if my hair is colored or tinted?

Please do not float if you have recently colored your hair and it is still bleeding (color running or coming off on a towel after washing). You can check your towel after shampooing to ensure it is not running. If it is, you cannot proceed with your float. Reds, jet blacks, and bright colores (blues, picks, etc.) tend to be the worst and can bleed for more than a month. If you choose to float and your hair is bleeding, it may result in a $1500.00 float room fee for us to drain and clean our float room.

What do I wear?

We recommend floating nude, by doing this you remove any sensation of touch from wearing a bathing suit. You can wear a bathing suit if you prefer to do so. Our Hydromassage tables are designed to be used fully clothed.

Can I drown if I fall asleep while I'm floating?

You will not drown in a float tank if you fall asleep. The density caused by the Epsom salt water makes you buoyant and difficult to turn over. If you do turn over, you will get salt water in your eyes and mouth which will wake you up.

How about if I'm claustrophobic?

All four float rooms are 5' x 8' tubs filled with 10" of Epsom salt water. There is plenty of room to stretch out and be comfortable. You can leave the lights on and the glass door to the float room open.

How is the water cleaned?

Each spa is filled with approximately 200 gallons of saltwater solution. 1100 lbs. of dissolved, pharmaceutical grade Epsom salt make up this solution. This concentration of salt alone would be an excellent sanitizer, but in addition to that we use a powerful dose of ultraviolet light, ozone, and a daily treatment of a 35% H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) solution. Filtering is accomplished through a cartridge filter system which traps debris as small as 5 microns. The entire system runs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the exception of float session time.

There are no harsh chemicals used. Ultraviolet light destroys over 99.9% of the organic matter and pathogens found in pools and spas. Ozone is the most powerful oxidizer in nature and is considered the worlds number one defense against modern resistant organisms while producing no by-products. Hydrogen peroxide, H2O2, works in a similar manner to ozone producing an additional layer of oxidation. This triad of sanitation processes will assure that you will enjoy a crystal clear, safe, and chemical free salt water environment.

Will floating help my anxiety or claustophopia?

Floating helps! However, it may take you 4-5 times to get comfortable and really allow yourself to relax. Do whatever it takes to stay in the pool for the length of your session. If you need to leave the light on, do it! If you need to play music, do that! Work up to going a full session without any stimulus. Take your time and do it at your comfort level.
